TUCSON’S SHOWPLACE FOR CONTEMPORARY SOUTHWEST CUISINE

The inspiration for our concept comes from the ingredients: Agave and cactus, pre-Hispanic varieties of tomatoes and squash and the most important corn and chilies. It also comes from the changes in flavors created by the smoke of mesquite. The desire to work these flavors into a fresh modern interpretation of desert dining and present Tucson with a new lens to view Mexican cuisine motivates us to fulfill our mission statement, day in and day out. El Mezquite Grill & Taqueria is Tucson’s showplace for contemporary Southwest Cuisine, highlighting local ingredients and the flavors of Mexico. My wife and I stopped in from our morning walk and are glad we did. The convenient location has made it a frequent stop on our morning walks.

They offer a breakfast buffet on weekends but we ordered from the menu.

The new chef has made minor adjustments to the menu but the offerings are still delicious and more than ample. The service and staffing were excellent. They open at 6 so you can walk there before it gets too hot. If you drive, there is plenty of convenient parking.

I’ve had the burger from the bar, and the wings and I must say THE BEST burger I’ve ever had! So juicy and has AMAZING taste!!

A group of us tried El Mezquite for happy hour. The interior design of all of the restaurant spaces is very cool. Besides the restaurant, there is a bar area (had live music) and lots of patio space, some with misters, some without. Good menu choices for drinks and small plates.

This was a Saturday so eventually it became busy, but tables are spaced well, and servers were masked. We all agreed to come back at a later date and explore the dinner menu. Special shout-out to Evyn and Kristen for their excellent hospitality!
